What is Assisted Living?
Truly Unique Assisted Living
A place of love & support where independence thrives.
What is Assisted Living?
Assisted Living is support for seniors with activities they can no longer do on their own. Focused on their particular needs, staff provides help with activities of daily living while maintaining the independence of residents.
Families have several options when choosing support for their loved ones. They break down based on needs, budget, and long-term plan.
Types of Assisted Living
Family Care
With this approach, a family member or members become caregivers to their senior loved one. They handle the day-to-day support and help seniors meet their needs.
This is arguably the most cost-effective way to ensure a senior loved one has the care and support they need. But it can also be the most taxing on both families and their loved ones.
While incredibly rewarding, caring for a senior family member is very involved. Caregiver burnout is a concern. Where the caregiver may not care for themselves, thus, they cannot properly care for their loved one.
Assisted Living Community
An assisted living community is a place built to provide personalized care and support to residents.
When looking at cost, this is the middle of the road. Depending on the community, there are costs to cover their apartment, services, and other aspects of care.
This requires a transitional period for residents to adjust. While that may be initially difficult, residents quickly learn that the support they receive is invaluable.
Professional Support at Home
Families can also work with professional caregivers who provide support at home.
This is the most expensive option. Families must cover all expenses related to the caregiver’s services. From lodging to transportation, families are responsible for every cost.
Services are delivered at home with no need to change routines or location.

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
Most of us go through our day and not think much about the things we do for ourselves. But to seniors, some activities have become difficult and cumbersome. This does not mean that they cannot do things for themselves. It simply means that they need a helping hand with certain activities.
Some ADLs are things like dressing, bathing, grooming, mobility, and medication management.
Assisted Living Community Services
Communities that provide assisted living support provide a range of services to residents. They ensure care and support, while residents can enjoy their daily life and can pursue their passions. Some services include:
Apartment
A choice of apartments that provide a place for residents to enjoy. This is the place where residents can spend quiet time on their own or meetings with family.
Benton House apartments feature a private restroom, carpeted living and sleeping areas, a kitchenette with a small fridge, sink, and so much more.
Upkeep Chores
Residents within our assisted living communities do not have to worry about cooking, cleaning, or any other type of chore. Staff handle them to ensure residents can focus on important things in life. Like spending time with family, friends, and simply having fun.
Personal Emergency Systems
Part of ensuring residents have the support they need, includes a personal emergency pendant.
With this, residents have 24/7 access to support staff if they need help. Which is especially helpful in case of a fall or other type of emergency.
Varied Dining
Variety is the spice of life. Residents at Benton House choose from a dozen daily meal options. They include fish, beef, chicken, and seafood, and are prepared fresh daily.
Combined with a balance diet, our residents also have access to delicious, nutritious snacks throughout the day.
Activities and Events
Every Benton House assisted living community has a full-time social director. They oversee the planning and scheduling of fun activities and events.
Residents can take part in any activity to make every day interesting and fun. We offer activities seven days a week, not just Monday through Friday.
Determining Level of Care
Every person is unique.
This is true for people of any age. So, two seniors do not require the same care. So, how do we provide the right care?
Simple: we take the time to get to know them. This provides us the opportunity to welcome them into our family and to learn their needs. Through this, we develop a plan of care that is personalized to meet the needs of each resident.
This way, residents receive comprehensive, tailored care and can enjoy as much independence as possible.
How to Choose the Right Care?
The first step is to discuss all the details with your loved one. If possible, they should be involved throughout the process. With any assisted living solution, you should have a plan that encompasses the current needs of your loved one and can be adjusted based on future changes.
We understand that finding the right care can feel overwhelming. So, let us help.
Benton House can help you explore your care options and choose care that is right. Even if your ultimate choice is not Benton House, we stand ready to provide you with the support you need.
